Great job carrying the highlights and defining them against the bed below. It gives the piece dimension that would otherwise be hard to achieve.

I really want to start doing this style of art but I dont know where to start🥺

Get good at draftsmanship and backgrounds. Learn to shade properly. Have solid anatomy and gesture. Be willing to put in a ton of time coming up with and putting in all the tiny details. Learn how to do proper line art. Learn color theory. Learn whatever software you're going to use to make the art. Learn how fabric moves and folds. Learn how to render complicated textures onto surfaces in your work.

Then, use a digital paper filter for that fine, on paper look.

You start with putting pencil on paper. This artist SimzArt actually inspired me to try learning art a few years ago, but i didnt really start to put any effort into it until just this past year. Its a skill like any other that can be learned it just takes time and dedication.

Before i started to really dedicate time to study and practice, my "art" was so bad. I basically started at level 0 i could barely even draw a convincing stick man.

That's impressive I actually do a lot of art I just have a really hard time doing anything that's not realism

I’m not quite clear on the red shaded knee and fingers. Are those areas in shadow or otherwise dimmed from light?

cupcakesandbruises t1_itnprdv wrote

I think the artist was blushing the joints and extremities. It's a style choice that I quite like

Psydator t1_itp5324 wrote

It's exaggerated here but happens naturally IRL. Nose ears knuckles etc are more reddish because of bloodflow.

Rare_Basil_243 t1_itodg9y wrote

I think the opposite, maybe those areas are meant to be reflecting the red glow of the lights

I'm curious, what program do you use to paint?

2

aspiecow t1_itp715i wrote

Right, it's the program's accomplishment to make this ps redditors should look up what sarcasm is

Im_Dubaya t1_itq7q5w wrote

Well, I have been drawing on iPad with procreate, but am curious about other programs. I was hoping to find out if they use something else like clipstudio or the like, and get some opinions before making a jump.

I'm here to talk about her right arm. It wouldn't exactly fall that way, the elbow would be more open so that her hand is lower. Or it would be flung over her shoulder or behind her, stretching the clavicle. That's the vibe I feel from this excellent sketch
