Love the composition! I see that you only paint women portraits. Do you know them? Are you using references and make them up? How does this process work? :-)

Thank you!! I would say that 99% of the people I paint are women (I do paint men occasionally, but not often!). Most of the people I paint are real people I know (such as with this painting), others are submitted to me (I occasionally do open calls for face references) and the remaining come from artist reference sources like caneyo. I do often change faces a little during painting with whatever feels right compositionally in the moment so it’s a mix of made up and from reference. The backgrounds and settings are 100% from my own brain and are usually made up on the spot; I’m not a big planner, I really enjoy spontaneity in my work, it makes it more fun for me and makes the work feel more alive I think.
