Ahem where's the animation of this world? I will accept nothing less than a series with 10 minutes episodes. Thank you please

Seriously, you make a few long animations and toss some music behind it you’d have an awesome YouTube channel. Just not one of those simple gif on repeat channel, those are a dime a dozen.

Are you taking commissions? DM if you do..

11

ethandaviesjpeg OP t1_ixitxgg wrote

Yeah that’s a really good idea. From what I’ve seen it’s really easy to make simple animations on procreate. I think I’ll have to give it a go at some point.

Sent you a dm as well

Beautiful, reminds of the illustrations in fairytale books I had as a child.

It's an odd statement, but some images give me certain sentiments; this felt very cozy/comfortable and I would not want to leave. I love the trees and the chimney.

19

stirs t1_ixj5pns wrote

The framing of the house behind the canopy of trees really gave me that cozy vibe

Looks like something from the Moomins

A few people have said that! Guess I’ll have to check it out!

6

KeyStep8 t1_ixn1sjk wrote

It definitely gives those vibes. You might like it. The 90s show and the books are genuinely very good.

I really like it ! Remind me of the Smurf comic that I used to read. Thank you for sharing it here with us.

Yup me too, I immediately thought of Gargamel's house.

PencilSkirt17 t1_ixigf1b wrote

Oh wow, this is amazing!

You totally don't have to answer this, I'll understand, but would you mind sharing how you got that all-over texture, or that watercolor look? I've been wanting to recreate this fairytale vibe in Procreate but always fall short. You totally nailed it, though!

6

ethandaviesjpeg OP t1_ixiik46 wrote

Thank you so much!

I put a paper texture on a multiply layer over everything, and then an overlay noise layer on top of that! I also set my brush at around 80% opacity which helps it look more traditional. Hope that’s helpful!

McnBacon t1_ixi1qgq wrote

I love the vibe of this. Love the line work. It’s making me nostalgic for something I can’t quite put my finger on. David the gnome maybe lol Anyway, what a lovely illustration, thanks for sharing!

Beautiful. Took me back to my childhood reading books with beautiful illustrations like this

A lovely painting. The windows are interesting, as they are black they give an element of mystery or a bit sinister. Was that the intent, rather than going for a lighter colour?

3

ethandaviesjpeg OP t1_ixhpb5a wrote

Thank you. That wasn’t my intent, but I really like that interpretation, and I think it goes well with the darkness of the surrounding trees. Almost like the house is luring you into a trap!

crustynorrits t1_ixiaxs9 wrote

Love this little hidden woodland cottage, it's soo well done, you are extremely talented!

Cozy house in the forest, and the fireplace already made it warm ready for the winter!

Someone likes their trees to be snapped rather than cut down cleanly.

2

MagneticDustin t1_ixiog3m wrote

Beautiful work. What is the effect you overlay to create that grainy texture?

2

ethandaviesjpeg OP t1_ixiq2e2 wrote

Thank you! I make a new overlay layer and put the noise up to 300% then turn the layer opacity to around 40%

Definitely. All cosy and warm. I have a weird feeling that I recognise this place, but I assume that it rather fits the discription of cabins in fantasy books. I think you'd be the first artist I'd follow just to see more :) ps may I use this as a background?

You can send me a version with a watermark :)

2

ethandaviesjpeg OP t1_ixjeeju wrote

Thank you! I definitely was trying to make it feel like something out of a fairytale or fantasy novel. And I’m glad you find it familiar.

Absolutely you can use it as a background :)

1

RedeemedRoses t1_ixj3cd1 wrote

How did you start these kind of drawings? I’d like to start but don’t know how to draw well

2

ethandaviesjpeg OP t1_ixj4pw5 wrote

It’s a good idea to look at some photos to get an idea of what you’re drawing, then I just really roughly block out shapes until I’m happy with the composition. Try not to get too bogged down in the details straight away! Hopefully that was helpful :)

I decided the second floor is one of those half floor/attic-y things and there's a spiral staircase in the middle of the house that leads up to it.

ETA - mind sharing which texture(s) you used?? O:-)

2

ethandaviesjpeg OP t1_ixlhv8w wrote

Thank you so much! I can’t remember where I got this specific paper texture from, but I use a lot from true grit texture supply and I’d recommend their stuff! Otherwise I just use a noise layer in procreate. :)

The art style reminds me of my dad and aunt’s old books from when they were kids that we had in my house growing up (I grew up on a farm so same farmhouse my dad grew up in), books by Enid Blyton and other similar authors from the 1950s & 60s. It’s so nostalgic and soothing to look at!

NFTs should be like this, not monke heads. Imagine you are the only one owning this art as superlarge resolution. Rightclick savers can only get a low res version of it for example. That may bring some sense to NFT art.
