Another tip is to do a colour wash over the canvas as a first layer. That way the white canvas doesn’t show through.

Yeah,
Step 1. Paint entire canvas dark orange / brown or colour of choice 2. Pencil in main lines (optional) 3. Paint landscape

I am not sure if a lighter or darker colour is better as the first coat - will leave that to you.
