My grandmother allways wanted to have a girl called the equivalent of Lílian in my language. She had 3 sons and 5 grandsons.

When She told this, she joked: "the universe really pointed at me and said Fuck you."

My mum went thru a lot for names here's a list if what I can remember:

Sky blu (to represent my dad's football team)

Mercedes ferrari porsche (after her pet fish that my dad boiled alive on accident)

Xena (after xena princess warrior)

Willow (from buffy)

Shaun Dalton (if I was a dude)

Star

Xander (from Buffy if I was a dude)

Kimberley-Jade

Both of which were shades of carpet

My father wanted to name me James Tiberius

There were two options for a boy, one after a friend of my father's in vietnam, the other was junior, which would have been weird given that I have at least but possibly two older brothers. The option of I was a girl was Yvette. Yeah I think I got the best option.

Obviously not gonna give away my real name, but my parents claimed to have considered Matthew and David as well. According to my mother, they gave freshly-born me the option, and I apparently made a sound that most closely resembled my real name. I'm sure it's not true, but fudge it I'm sticking with that story! I'm good with my name; not a rare or uncommon name, but not super popular either.

Mhairi Gaelic version of Mary (dad's mum who passed when he was young) or Mercedes after Mercedes McCambridges who was the voice of the demon in The Exorcist. I dunno what my mum was trying to say about me.
