Because depression is a medical condition, and not the same as sadness… it doesn’t need a reason
Edit: I suppose I should clarify that I understand depression can have triggers. My reply was intended to make the point that depression and sadness are often used as interchangeable terms. Sadness always has an external trigger, whereas many people (like myself) suffer from depression for internal / medical reasons only.

There are different types of depression, some do have a cause and reason

I never said it needed a reason. But for some people they can pinpoint a specific event/issue in their life that has caused their depression which is what I am interested in.
