When I was a kid I thought we would be living like the Jetson’s cartoon with elevated round houses, commuting in bubble space craft, wearing goofy outfits and a big dog that chased the cat on the treadmill.

I’m not a boomer in the literal sense, but growing up in the 80s and early 90s, we thought of the year 2000 as some far off world in which we’d have flying cars and stuff.
We got to 2000 thinking we’d be the Jetsons, but we weren’t even as advanced as the Jeffersons.

According to my grandmother, born in 1944, she expected everyone in poverty to have at least a middle-class quality of life. She would argue that it has been a success compared to the deprivations of her childhood.
