So I don’t work out much but I have a very physically demanding job, I’m a 39 male who has weighed 150lbs for as long as I can remember, I want to gain weight. I’ve started making smoothies every morning and was thinking of adding protein powder to them but looking online has got me very confused between whey protein and plant based and there seems to be a lot of brand options why advice or suggestions would be really appreciated also if anyone’s got a good smoothie recipe for weight gain that’d be awesome too

I would just get any whey isolate and use it with peanut butter, oats and milk in a shake. Don’t worry about getting a calorie filled powder.

get whey protein unless you find it hurts your tummy. Costco has good protein, if you aren't seeking any fitness benefit, just simple weight gain, any protein will do. In terms of smoothie recipe, i add fruit, protein, peanut butter, flax seed.

If it's just weight you're after and you don't care about fat, look at the nutrition info. High carbs, protein, and fat is good. Isolate is protein without the rest.

I'm not a big fan of supplementing only with whey protein. Look into a product called Trutein. It has whey, casein, and egg white. My post workout meal is a whey shake, but if I ever supplement aside from that, I use trutein.

assuming you don't eat enough since you're skinny, whatever tastes good, that way you will actually consume it on a consistent basis

Don't use protein powder to gain weight, just eat real food but in bigger portions. Make extra rice, oatmeal, pasta; it's all very cheap. Keep eating meat, veggies and whatever else. Some protein powder has no calories, some has tons of calories. That's what you need to gain weight, more calories than you burn. A protein shake is a great supplement but you can't rely on them to gain weight. Eat good food with nutrients and vitamins etc. Just a lot more of it.

Oh yea I mean I’m eating more food but my job makes it difficult to have 3 meals a day especially healthy ones so I figured a smoothie every morning packed with as much healthy things would be a good start

Well again, supplment it. Make it the start of your day but don't make it all you eat. Look for protein powder mass gain etc something with higher calories. Add some peanut butter and fruit to the blender.

Go to usadas website and find the protein powder that has been flagged for having steroids in it
