Graduate software dev here.
At work we learned the boy scout rule: Leave the camp grounds cleaner than you found it. It's an analogy for software dev where if you're working on a file, find a way to make it cleaner than when you started using it.
At home I've started cleaning at least one thing from messy part of the house as I walk past it. One tiny thing is easy enough to do, and over time the results show.

Not exactly super small, but the return vs time spent ratio is massive. I have never had one and I got a dog. She is the happiest part of most of my days.
