Because people are lazy and bottled water is dirt cheap.

I'm sorry, are you the bottled water police that I need to submit a justification for approval from?

I personally feel like bottled water should be banned to be honest, as it's just giving people an exsuse to be lazy and not get a reusable water bottle. Would make more sense for stores to sell reusable water bottles and have a tap people could fill them up at,

Apparently in the US the tap water is that bad. Every where else (in the western world) it is just a convenience at the time.

People buy bottled water because it’s cheap and easy to dispose. Also it would make no sense for large venues hosting sports games, concerts, etc… to put water filters in reusable water bottles and sell them.

edit: sorry op some of these replies are really not it… why are people getting so mad and defensive over a harmless question about bottled water

Ayo, I got that Brita pitcher and fill a 30-ounce (about 900 ml) of water that I fill and drink twice a day or more.

my town gets its tap water from a limestone mountain not far away. you can't filter it properly because there is so much lime in the water. And you shouldn't drink water like that either.

The thing is, the city we get our tap water from is about 10km away from my city, but in the other direction is also a city with perfectly fine water. Which isnt even 4km away and I really dont understand why my city chose this shit to be their water.
