Just like other addictions. It’s all about the endorphins released when you win. It keeps you wanting more and more. To the point that you gamble everything away just to get that rush.
First it will start small. But then your body will want a larger rush which in turn makes you gamble more and more to fill that void

If you win, it’s the thrill of the win.
If you lose it’s the compulsion to turn your luck around.

To me it's the many futile attempts, but then I get something not too big but bigger than bottom tier win. Which makes me think that I am just lucky enough to get something bigger.
