Neither, it's all about ragtime sheet music for me.

There's no innovation in music. Only so many notes, chords, progressions, etc. Its all been done before even if its new to you.

There is, there's just no innovation in the popular crap you hear on the radio or out in public. You only find new things if you go looking for them

I'd say this was pretty damn innovative when it came out, but it got popular enough that I'm sure there's a million copycats out there now

You miss the point. That might as well be pop music for its known qualities. People have known of djent, etc and played polyrhythms for hundreds of years. Is it well known? Nah but it existed. Just from our modern times, the recordings of the most famous to garage bands, EVERYTHING has been done before and known of.

Both are very influential and it would be hard to say which one is more influential. Rock was influenced by jazz, but rock music has also influenced many different types of genres.

Maybe the two have their very individual points, which can't be fought as they are two pillars of music history. will it be? 🤔

More innovation? Hmm. As a pretty big rock fan, I think I’m still going with jazz. At least, historically. Maybe now, it’s rock. But rock is also out of its’ glory days.

Thanks! What are your music tastes, btw? Give me a favourite artist/band, and if it’s impossible to pick just one, give me a few

Interesting. I’m Colombian and I rarely listen to latin music. I left when I was five, and my parents were busy being immigrants, so most of my music taste I had to discover for myself. What’s a “jukebox musician?”

robin_buns OP t1_j6piw6j wrote

You know the jukeboxes that were in coffee shops and you could choose any song with a coin?

Well I'm more or less like that, I have bases for any genre, I'm not a fan of rock, but I can defend myself if you ask me for a song hahaha.

Blind_Wolf t1_j6p42xc wrote

That’s like asking “who contributes more innovation to art: sculptors or painters?”

I really wanted to ask kind of a question about rock and EDM, but I didn't want to do something so "controversial".

Everybody. Never be a music snob. A good song is a good song and a good hook is a good hook.
