I think it's always been pretty conservative. It's southern and has a shit ton of old people living in it

Well, it’s where every other old fart in America wants to retire to. No state income tax, hot af, irrational governor starting Fox fueled culture wars with Disney and gay people — appeals to their conservative values.

It grossed me out. Rising property insurance and taxes. Lousy school districts. Increasingly worse tropical weather. After 30 years it was enough for 3 lifetimes.

My daughters are 5 and 7. Global heating is not going to be a good thing anywhere but Florida is especially susceptible. In a way, I’m giving them a fighting chance living 1000 miles north at 1000’ elevation.

always has been, but covid, the mask debate, and recent presidency definitely sparked a more public reveal of how conservative it is

Lots of conservatives have moved there for retirement. Not the sole reason but it is a contributing factor.

Redistricting plays a huge part - it was more than just the gullibility and greed of retirees.

And now that the neo-Confederates there have unleashed their gleeful sadism, it has attracted stupid assholes from the rest of the country.
