Well, it’s where every other old fart in America wants to retire to. No state income tax, hot af, irrational governor starting Fox fueled culture wars with Disney and gay people — appeals to their conservative values.
It grossed me out. Rising property insurance and taxes. Lousy school districts. Increasingly worse tropical weather. After 30 years it was enough for 3 lifetimes.
My daughters are 5 and 7. Global heating is not going to be a good thing anywhere but Florida is especially susceptible. In a way, I’m giving them a fighting chance living 1000 miles north at 1000’ elevation.

Lots of conservatives have moved there for retirement. Not the sole reason but it is a contributing factor.
