i’m a “young” person and the biggest lie i’ve ever been told is that it gets better. in no my point in my life has it gotten better. i have increasingly less free time and ability to do what i want. i have increasingly bigger and bigger problems to deal with and i find myself fucked by my governments systems at nearly every turn.

"Follow your bliss"

It's advice from an old person, looking backwards at their life, trying to find a pattern after the fact. What you call "bliss" when you're looking at your future is not the same thing as what you label "bliss" looking back at your past.

"Do what you love for a living and you'll never work a day in your life!"

More bad advice. Do what you love for a living, and you'll never completely relax or be able to simply enjoy the things you love anymore.

Being 18 changes nothing and it’s actually a disadvantage because now you can be tried as an adult.

“Don’t worry about it now you still have plenty of childhood left” Gee I can’t wait to be thrown into jails for tax evasion because no one would teach me because I still have plenty of childhood

"Follow your dreams" is too simple, and it can lead to some pretty bad and unfulfilling outcomes. The problem is "Define your dream, then carefully articulate what you're willing to give up to get it and for how long, then follow your dream, but note what developments should cause you to immediately stop" can't be stitched on a pillow as easily.

To “tough it out” when you’re in a shitty job. Terrible advice. Instead you should immediately start looking for new jobs and get out of there. Having a job you hate is a recipe for depression and negativity in life
