Ask anyone (like me) that ran away from a socialist country what a shit hole it was

I was in a discord server once for a hobby. Turns out the community was SUPER woke and subscribed to all the... let's just say 'extreme' ideologies.
They were once having a discussion about how they wish everything could just be socialist and I figured it would be okay for me to say:
"I'd say mixed economy is best but if it was literally either capitalist or socialist, I don't think I'd choose socialist"
Oh. My. Goodness. They all had their torches and pitchforks out for me. I was like "Woah I'm saying I think a mixed economy is best I just know that if you'd ask anyone that grew up in a full socialist country they'd tell you it's the living worst"
The amount of PURE hate and aggression I received was completely insane. Everyone 🤡 and 🤢 reacted to all my messages as well, it was funny but damn it was wild 🤣.
I'm from the UK so I can't speak from experience for a pure socialist or pure capitalist perspective cos we're mixed here, but they even berated me for saying mixed is good 😬.
So I'm glad I read your comment because I was made out to be an insane and stupid devil woman hahahaha

Free the markets

I think that looking at statistics and studies by international organizations, countries that are democratic and have socialist policies have a higher level of development (which means lower infant mortality, better life expectancy, better level of education), lower inequalities and lower crime rate. So I think having socialist policies in a democracy is very desirable, and that the vast majority of socialist parties are nothing like the Soviet Union.
If you look at economics, you know markets need regulations because of flaws that deviate it from the pure and perfect model, and that the market is not efficient at all in some field where the state needs to either produce it itself or subsidize. The perfect efficiency of completely free markets doesn't even exist in theory, much less in practice

Ask people living in China or the former Soviet Union how they like socialism

I’m not a supporter of either! I think we should go back to a “benevolent kingship”

Good. Benefits the masses instead of the fortunate few.
Ideally anyways, I think humans are simply too greedy for it to actually happen.

Good.
A lot of people equate socialism with totalitarian dictatorships in the 20th century. Take those comments with a grain of salt.

Seriously, why for God sake ask for unfounded opinions of unaware and unprofessional people about a controversial debate? This is the best way to get random persons fall victims of confirmation bias. Why?

If providing a good or service requires the company providing that good or service to have a monopoly, then that good or service needs to be socialized.
Example: infrastructure.
You’ll never have multiple power lines running down your street, letting you hook up to whichever power line is a better deal. It’s a monopoly.
Same with water, same with internet, same with railroads. They work better socialized.
If a good or service is beneficial to a country as a whole, but can’t be run profitably, it should be socialized. Examples: the postal service, disaster relief, national defense, education.
If a good or service is much more beneficial to the country when it’s free than when it’s at max profit, have a socialized option and allow companies to compete with it.
Examples: Health insurance, publishing research, funding research. These are things that will save money or improve life in the long run if they’re free or cheap.
If a good or service is considered essential to the point where the company providing that service cannot be allowed to go out of business, and the government will bail them out every time they get close to bankruptcy, that company needs to be socialized. The free market requires companies to be able to go out of business to function.
If an industry allows for lots of competition between companies, don’t socialize it. That competition will drive innovation.
