I had a customer once that explained how his grandson died. He was playing on a bed and when he jumped off, his hoodie got caught on the post, choking him, and no one could hear the noise he made. The numerous ways kids can accidentally kill themselves or others in otherwise innocuous ways is terrifying, but we can't wrap them in bubblewrap. My son is 12, and in that entire 12 years, I've been paranoid he'll fall off the bed and choke himself.

My parents always had a rule growing up that I was not allowed to wear a hoodie or anything restrictive near my neck to bed. Pre kids I thought they we so strict but now I understand why!

You can’t fix everything for them. I want to her to be loved and have a wonderful life but I can’t guarantee everyone will be nice. It’s so hard listening to your six year old cry because people were being racist to her and ableist. It was easier when I could fix everything by putting on her favourite movie

The society they will be growing up in. The problems kids face today don't even compare to what I dealt with 15-30 years ago. We likely will be homeschooling or choosing private education for our kids at least until they have a solid foundation
