One of the side effects of my ADHD is that I get sensory overload really easily, especially for clothes and fabrics. I've been trying to find a sweatshirt for years that is both sturdy enough to last and soft enough not to irritate my skin after an hour of wear. In particular, I struggle with sweatshirts that have abrasive cuffs, scratchy tags, or seams.

I'm interested in brands like American Giant and Flint and Tinder, but they're online only for me so I can't test them out. Has anyone tried these brands and found them particularly soft? I'm also open to other suggestions if anyone has any. Thanks in advance!

Solid advice. I've begun switching my clothes out for all cotton recently.

I would try the American giant midweight. The classic is probably too rigid for you

American Giant are pretty thick/rigid (I have one and love it, but based on what you’ve put forward here I don’t think it’s the right fit for you).

I think you’d have some luck at Marine Layer— they have a decent retail footprint + Nordstrom also carries select items. Return policy for both is very generous if you give it a go and decide ‘no’.

I feel like an ass saying it but I love Amazon basics hoodies and sweatpants. Only had them for a year so not sure about bifl but they’re sort and have retained that softness better than other more expensive ones I’ve had.

Hey as long as it's soft that's what matters, thanks!

Origin. It’s a clothing company out of Maine. They source and manufacture everything right here in the U.S. Their standard hoodie is the softest I’ve ever put on. I am 100% impressed. So much so I now own four. I air dry them after a wash so maybe that keeps the “new” feeling longer but regardless….excellent product. I honestly have not worn a more comfortable sweatshirt in my entire life.

There are a few different kinds of hoodies they make. I’d say with from what you explained you need stick towards the, Golden Wave, Silver Wave, Blackout, Ice, Eclipse, or Crimson Wave. The other like the Heavy Or the Kilo while superbly built have quite a bit of stitching that might not work for your situation. Oh and unless you want it form fitting order a size up.

The mid-weight American Giant is very soft. If you like that one and want a heavier version, go with Brave Star Selvedge 20oz hoodie. The fabric for both is roughly the same, but the brave star version is a little thicker and warmer.

Hi, I don't have suggestions for sweaters, but have you tried putting a comfortable long sleeved shirt underneath? In general layers help me a lot with not feeling the outside one too much
