I was just at the filson store an hour ago 😂
Filson is super legit. Again a little overpriced but man is that stuff high quality and might last for your kids/grandkids lol
It's super repairable too. I have a vest of theirs that I wore through a small area. I think with their guarantee they'd probably replace but I just darned it. Slap some wax on it and you're done. I've got a similar material, Barbour, wax jacket thats nearly 30 years old. Waxed cotton / canvas is great stuff for durability and repaitability. Darn it, patch it, re-wax whenever it needs it.
GoRuck’s Heritage line would work in an office environment, especially the black waxed canvas.
Briggs & Riley
Look at Aer.
was about to recommend the Aer Travel bag 3. I just got it and the thing screams quality also its sold out everywhere usually a good sign
I'd reconsider your use of the term professional backpack. Its akin to a tuxedo shirt. The closest I could imagine is at https://zerohalliburton.com/collections/backpacks
I bought the Bellroy Venture Sling 9L (large crossbody bag) - Nightsky color off Amazon (the link if to the Bellroy website, it's the exact same price as Amazon as of right now) about a month ago. Every weekday I wear it to and from work, maybe 30 minutes of very light wear daily. I also refrain from hard using items if I can, including this bag, so that they might last longer with less visible wear. This bag still looks like I took it out of the packaging last night, as if never used.
It's a significant step up in quality (and cost) of the rough canvas messenger bag I bought a year or two previously. That messenger bag had more room due to height but I didn't like how it sagged so much. I also didn't care for the strap on the messenger bag at all. The Bellroy crossbody 9L bag is working nicely and the overall impression is that as long as nothing crazy happens, I could very easily use this bag for decades to come.
Had the same set of demands, ended up with a timbuk2 authority deluxe. Been using it a while now.
Rofima, Nomin, some Bellroy,
Tbh, my tumi has been amazing (looks good an sturdy). Tumi Sheppard Deluxe - alpha bravo collection

Fits your brief but a bit pricey

I rock the Ironsight from this collection in a business setting, doesn’t look out of place. was reasonable price but limited run
Try over at r/backpacks too because there’s lots of options these are just my favorites
Topo designs has some options that convert from messenger bag to backpack, I’ve been very happy with their stuff: https://topodesigns.com/products/commuter-briefcase
I got an Ortlieb backpack. If you remove the waist and chest cross bands it looks good and it will last or be repairable in most cases.
If you don't mind about BIFL, I'd check out the Bellroy Transit 28L in black. Also the Aer 2, Minaal Carry-On 3.0 Bag,
I think honestly with these types of bags they don't last as long as anything listed in BIFL. The ones that 'are' BIFL will look more rugged and made of hard materials, ie Goruck.
The Aer bags are made out of Cordura ballistic nylon I have one and its feels BIFL the bag he posted is made of "obsidian" most likely some sort of polyester neoprene thing that will fall apart in a year or two haha defintly not bifl

Have heard great things about the yet bag actually:

GoRuck has a big following but definitely that mountain style it sounds like you're trying to avoid, but kind of comes with the bifl territory often times:

Thule is a good brand as well and don't overlook camera bags, lots of small compartments in addition to the large main one:
