Don’t get a speed queen. Just don’t. They’re liked here for their simplicity, but they are simply bad at their job. Simultaneously harsh on clothes and bad at cleaning them.

Maytag is a better option.

I had a base model LG front load washer that broke after about 15 years. I thought that was an acceptable shelf life for a washer so I bought another one with the same direct drive. The old dryer still works great. With that said, I've heard bad things about other LG appliances, but their washer and dryer have been good for me.

The best option would be to not buy a combo. A combo is either good at only one thing or bad at both.

Maybe I shouldn’t have used the word combo. I’m looking for advice on a washer/dryer set, as in separate machines, not conjoined ones or one of those weird all in one washer/dryers. My wife saw how pretty the LG “stacked” single panel washer/dryer combos looked and I just said “what if the dryer kicks the bucket?”

Well I do have an lg washer but a samsung dryer that we just bought, can't say anything bad yet, the dryer works great but is a bit noisy. The washer we have for 2 years, only problem I've got is that you can't really clean the drum and over time there might be gunk that gets in all the wrong places.

If you have the money however, go for BIFL brands and don't look back.

I had a washer and dryer repair guy tell me to stay away from Samsung. He said LG used to be good but in the last 5 years he has had increasing amounts of problems. He liked Maytag, GE, Miele, Speed Queen, Kenmore, and Whirlpool.

I had to get a LG washer dryer combo (The LG WashTower) because it was the only one that would fit in my space that wasn't one of those crappy GE apartment combo's.

It's been 6 months, so far so good but, 6 months 'aint nothin' in the grand scheme of things.

Sounds like you're talking about the TR series, which is their energy star compliant one. Nothing beats actual agitation with a fully filled water drum for ACTUALLY cleaning things. The TC series is badass.

I've also never used anything but top-load agitation machines, and I've had the same pairs of jeans and t-shirts for over 10 years. I suppose maybe if you have really intricate or finnicky clothing, "harshness" might be a concern, but I'm not a fashionista and "dry-clean only" is an absolute show-stopper.

This isn't exactly true, the speed queen tc5 and dc5 are BIFL, the others are good but not the tanks that the tc/dc5's are. If you want a BIFL speed queen it's those 2 though, none of the others

Where is your evidence to support this? The only glitch in Speed Queen's lineup in the last 200 years was when they removed the true agitator functionality from their top loaders. This coincided with the launch of the Maytag 575 which curbstomped Speed Queen's sales. Then Speed Queen launched the TC5 which was the last year's model with a fancy new name. In any event, the Speed Queen hate during that period was not with the warranty, but the cleaning ability. We DO NOT want to obfuscate those two elements!
