Carhartt Yukon Extremes Active Jacket vs Patagonia Steel Forge Puff Work Jacket

I’m trying to decide which jacket to go with. I live in Northern Wisconsin and spend a fair amount of time outdoors throughout the winter. Whether it’s shoveling snow for myself and my neighbor, walking through wooded areas, or hanging deer at deer camp, I need a jacket that can do that and clean off easy if it gets a little bit of mud or blood on it. I had a Northface which had a very light gray almost white part of the sleeve that just got too dirty to clean well last year, it was warm but just not durable enough and I was always worried about getting that light colored section stained with blood or mud that wouldn’t come out. So that brought me to these two workwear lines. I LOVE Patagonia as a company, their environmental responsibility is very appealing to me. However, Carhartt’s history of high performing workwear and the fact that it’s basically Wisconsin Gucci is also very appealing. Anyone try both?

The Patagonia stuff I have gotten so far has been much better quality than my Carhartt stuff. Shame it is harder to find in Canada! The material has held up better and they have a repair program should you manage to do something to them. I am forever mending my husband's Carhartt doublefronts and my own are patches on patches and full re-seats. The women's stuff is crazy thinner than the men's from them, costs more since it is never on sale here, and does not last as long even with all my mending efforts. Patagonia uses the same fabric for both which is important to me! I'm not wearing this shit for fashion! I haven't gotten one of the chore jackets yet, but a few fellow farmers here absolutely love them.

I'd go with something made out of real leather, it'll clean easily and last long...

Otherwise, Patagonia is very transparent and proven to stand behind their products either by replacing or repairing them.

Carhartt makes good products but they're a lot more disposable...

Carr hart went down the drain when the hipsters got hold of it and made it a fashion statement. Went to their store in Italy recently and the quality did not seem like it use to.

I’ve heard that overseas WIP stuff is horrible, which sucks because I feel like Carhartt, as an iconic American brand, should represent American toughness and quality manufacturing, not shitty American manufacturing

Latest pants we got from them were not made in US and also developed holes crazy fast.

The only pants they still make here are the duck double front pants, the non stretch ones.

That is exactly what we buy. And last four pairs have been made overseas. The rugged flex are not even worth considering.

It’s not just the overseas stuff. They sold out years ago, have friends in the biz that have confirmed the same. Once they got a taste of the money that could be made catering to this counter culture lifestyle they were like, well.

I have had my eye on the steel forge aswell, I was curious how much more durable the face material is compared to a typical down jacket.
