Hey guys,

Wife and I bought a Samsung washer/dryer about 10 years ago and they've broken several times now. (Lesson Learned) Finally getting fed up, but not sure which brands are worth a damn these days, seeing as so many of the older companies seem to quit caring about quality. What are your suggestions on manufacturer and model of washers and dryers that don't suck?

Speedqueen - they are effectively residential builds of laundromat machines designed to take a beating for many years.

I bought Maytag. They are the top loader old fashion model that is HD. Feels and looks pretty durable.

I have a feeling you’re using the models I bought from Lowe’s. All white with agitator? It’s pretty good no issues 4 years so far.

I was just going to comment: whatever you do don’t get a Samsung. Also had a bad experience with the Whirlpool Cabrio series. Gonna follow this thread as my Samsung washer is clinging to life at the moment.

Samsung is only good for phones and tvs. I have Maytag after having the same problem as you. Fixed the dryer 4 times before saying enough is enough.

Samsung also sucks for phones and TVs. They are incredibly innovative, but are a shady company and nothing they make is reliable.

LG front load per Consumer Reports.

I feel like LG is a long the same thread as Samsung, fancy looks and plastic parts. I have an LG fridge and it is not without issues

Really happy with Speed Queen! We wanted a traditional top load with agitator. Minimal bells and whistles. Should be easy to repair but haven’t needed to.

Electrolux. That's it, full stop.

They're the best washer and dryer for the money, don't destroy clothes like speed queens, and come with an 18 month warranty. I've got a set of the 600 series and they're an absolute dream.

I have been pleased with every Whirlpool appliance I have ever owned, including washers and dryers. I don't have the Cabrio version, not sure they even make that line anymore.

Look at Roper, also made by Whirlpool. A slightly more budget line.

Whirlpool also makes Maytag now.

I’m theory anything that doesn’t rely on a computer. I’ve got a cheap roper that killed it’s thermo once but has otherwise been bulletproof

Ironically the only thing that hasn't died on these Samsungs have been the electronics/computers. Pumps, gears, motors, on the other hand...

When I was young (born in 66) my parents had Kenmore everything. I remember that avocado fridge that lasted for 35 years. It went with the house when they sold it and it was still perfect. Now with Sears' downfall and just everyday quality, I'd never buy Kenmore. Such a shame it went to shit. It's a crap shoot nowadays what to buy. LG. Samsung, I've had good and bad with them and others. I have a home warranty and when something happens I call and get it fixed.

It really is... I have a warranty too but I have to pay $75 for the initial service calls, so it's not as bad as it could be. I just wish companies would stop with the planned obsolescence stuff and make a decent product again. Though the suggestions of Miele, Maytag, and Speed Queen have definitely peaked my interest.

I've got a maytag front loading washer that has been going strong for 12 years. I love that thing!

I live in an apartment and have probably the cheapest GE front loader washer and dryer (new 7 years ago) and we do A LOT of laundry in it and they are still going strong. A belt had to be replaced once in the dryer, but it was like a 5 min fix job for the maintenance person. I’m impressed they have lasted this long.

Every GE appliance I've encountered since 2000 has been a cheap piece of crap, fridges that fall apart, microwaves that roar like demons, etc. GE used to be amazing, and maybe their old style washers and dryers still are, but man did they not come into the new millennium strong.

Don't go by capacity. A Speed Queen is a full fill washer, so you get 3.2cuft, while most others are only half fill. Thus, you're only getting half of the listed capacity. Watch this video it's pretty good.

Lots of recommendations for Speed Queen / Huebsch but they appear to be small capacity. Any recommendations for larger capacity units?
