Did everyone’s parents have one of these? Pushing those little rectangle buttons is a deep childhood memory

Hell yeah I have my dad’s beehive from the 90’s. Could beat the shit out of someone with the cup.

My parents had this! And all the other matching avocado green appliance. My sister killed it off sometime during the early 2000’s.

Now I’m nostalgic for the avocado green fridge that my mom had for decades. I think she finally gave it away in the late nineties.

Ours died sometime in the late 90’s. My aunt had a “mustard” yellow, it was more like pee color, it died around 2005.

Blenders fit this sub better than most products. They are a product that was turned chintzy since the 90s and on. Olive green is a good sign for any blender.

Yeah except these blenders suck. They don't die, true. But compared to a vitamix, you may as well use a hand held immersion blender or even a food processor. The old vita mixes slap, but generally you couldn't pay me to use one of these old dogs after seeing how smooth a new vita mix can get....anything. there is a reason vita mix is a staple in literally nearly every professional kitchen. They are irreplaceable.

I appreciate your modern view. I'm not much of a blender user. Mostly an ice cruncher. In general I just appreciate these old models for powering through wooden spoons and spatulas throughout their tenon. There are better blenders but, for what they were made for in the time they were made, this blender will run forever.

GodOfManyFaces t1_jbi6jng wrote

I don't disagree that it will run forever. It will also smell like burning every time you use it (at least my parents did). The quality of the blend in the final product in an actual good blender is better to me than "it won't ever die". I can put toasted nuts in my smoothies and NOT have them be Grainy and gross. I can make nut flour, I can make oat flour. I can grind spices. I understand wanting something that will run forever. I personally prefer something that returns a better end product.

Well taken. My point is that it's an OG blender built to last. What was it good for? Margaritas and daiquiris.

A Shaken marg or daq is better than blended. By a mile. If that is all your blender is good for, throw it out.

Vitamix feels as close to BIFL as you are going to get with a modern consumer appliance.

We still have ours and the Eurospec one. However, due to Europe running on 50hz and my country running on 60hz, the blender has more power than designed.

When I was a teenager I broke the one my parents got as a wedding gift by accidentally dropping a spoon in it while it was on. I still feel dumb and shameful when I think about it.
