I'm stuck. There's so many choices, so many claims, and the brand names are over $60. All these pillow companies claim this and that but then their pillow is flat in a few months.
I want a pillow that will LAST and support me, something between soft and firm, with great support for side sleeping. I know pillows aren't going to last for life, but a 5-year pillow is fine.
Came here to say Coop as well. We've tried 5 or 6 different pillows, and this is the only one both my wife and I really like.
Do you have experience with Purple or Tuft & Needle by any chance? I also saw DreamyBlue on Amazon, where you fill the pillow with the memory foam shredding. Lifetime warranty as well
I tried a purple. I really wanted to like it, but it was way too “soft”. I felt like it gave little to no support. I wound up returning it.
Which purple pillow did you have and when did you buy it? I heard they are currently in V3 model because people said V2 and V1 were returned too much. Do you live in USA or international? I don't live in USA and wanted to try one out but none of the big box sleep stores carry it.
It was the Harmony version, probably 2 years ago.
I prefer a firm pillow and it was just too soft. I felt like it offered little to no support. My favorite has been a memory foam I picked up from Costco about 12 years ago.
Mine are from Ikea and are memory foam as well. Recently I've been hearing about some sort of jel being better than foam, especially for removing heat from your pillow/head.
I guess I'll skip purple harmony for now, and look at other ones. I'm thinking coop because of its Customer Reports review, its adjustable, jel and memory foam options, looks firm(ish?)
No experience with those I'm afraid.
Just to give another viewpoint, I have the same Coop pillow and I didn't like it. It feels "airy" for lack of a better word, like it's not really supporting your head / neck. I feel like I can't relax and put my full weight on it. It's hard to explain. I've tried different fill levels. Maybe it's just a 'me' problem. It just didn't feel like other pillows in an unnatural way (to me).
They have a decent return policy though, so you can try it for yourself.
What pillow did you settle on? There are so many options. Purple seems interesting. Problem is that I've always used 2 pillows stacked, so would I need 2?
I haven't yet. I'm still searching as well, and my sleep is suffering for it.

Negative. I've given up for the time being. I may go back to using a sobakawa pillow. I had one decades ago and I liked it.

can you describe your and your wife's sleeping style? Also is the pillow: firm or soft?
Sleeping styles are mixed. Mostly side sleeping, with a little bit of back sleeping. The pillow can be made more or less firm by adding or removing filling. It comes with a certain amount in the pillow, plus a bag of extra filling in case you want to make it firmer.
Looks like I'll probably end up getting this pillow over getting purple. I basically have the same style as you.

How do you wash it?
There is a zipper on the end. You can dump out all the filling, wash the outside, and put the filling back.
I'm a fan of latex foam rubber pillows for side sleeping. All the ones I've gotten, no matter the brand, have held up well for at least 10 years. Currently have a couple of whatever brand they had at bed bath and beyond about 8 years ago that are still going strong along with one of Brooklyn beddings talalay latex pillows that's about 3 years old and still great. The latter is sold in different loft heights and goes on sale fairly frequently too. Would get another next time I need a pillow
Been using the same set of latex pillows for 8 years, they feel like they're brand new. I got so used to them that when my wife told me she replaced a different set of pillows (for propping up, supporting legs, etc.) I was confused and it took my brain a moment to remember that replacing pillows is a thing you normally have to do.

I tried wool and down. Both of them compressed ~30%. I am now converting to 100% natural latex. You can choose how soft or firm because there are different options. I have had a mattress topper for three years now and it is the same as when I bought it.
I’ve had good luck with Nest pillows. You can adjust the amount of filling yourself
I’d second this - I have the Nest Easy Breather and I would purchase again in a heartbeat.
I'm still using my Tempurpedic pillow from 15 years ago. I think I paid $200 for it back then, no idea what they're charging for them now.
Still using 20 year old IKEA feather pillows and loving them.
Serenity by temperpedic, they weren't for me, but my gf loves them. $27-30 at Costco in stores. They're not quite firm enough for me personally
I have two Casper pillows. Gf and I both use them. I'm a side sleeper she's a uh... Idk. Falls asleep in the weirdest positions. They've both held up for at least three years. Maybe more. No plans to get a new pillow in my future.
I also have a Casper pillow. 100% worth it imo.
This is definitely firm, but it was game-changing for both my husband and I: buckwheat hull pillows. I made ours, but there are a number of companies that sell them.
As a fellow side sleeper, it's the ONLY pillow I've ever tried that gives me neck support. You kinda shape it to your head/neck when you lay down and then it just stays put, it doesn't shift or go flat. It doesn't end up feeling firm. I feel like my muscles all relax because they're actually supported. I stopped waking up with tension headaches. It's crazy!
I haven't made any changes to mine (since I made them ~5 years ago), but occasionally my husband wants more hulls in his. I just unzip and add more. I bought the hulls for cheap at Natural Grocers.

My wife loves her purple pillows. She’s been using one for two years, and it’s still just like the day we bought it.

Standard size harmony, medium height. It was the height they marketed for side sleepers. I think the high one is for back sleepers, and the low for stomach.
edited to add: you can find them on the big auction site for around a hundred bucks or so, and they’re drop shipped from harmony. Definitely don’t pay the hundred and sixty bucks they advertise for.

I really like the Beckham Hotel Collection Bed Pillows. Comes in a set of 2. They replaced my Ikea Hylle which I really liked. I think because everyone's preferences, head and body are so different you aren't going to find one that everyone will agree on.
Any shredded foam pillow should do you. I'd avoid CrackPillow's products, they are overpriced at best, and you'll need to adjust the fill to your needs when you get it. I recommend a trash bag and take about half of it out.
so many options exist because so many preferences exist. thickness, softness, etc.
have you tried memory foam pillows? I haven't slept better in years.
I feel like pillows are lame. They're so disappointing. I just use a bunched up blanket, man. At least I know it's completely dry after I wash it and not growing mold. It's also multi use, dude. Idk I just feel like pillows are a scam.

It's memory foam but in chips, so it doesn't push back at you like a chunk of memory foam.
