Wife is a 30 year optician, go locate an independent optical shop, who offers soldering. The chains (my wife working for one of the largest) will not. They use a jewlery grade silver solder. If no independents in your area, a jewler may be your only choice.

Or a laser welder. Almost any jeweler will have one.

That is an excellent idea! I just had to replace both arms on my mother's glasses. Only one was broken but of course they said you have to replace both at the same time so the one that isn't broken won't soon break. I'll do what you suggested next time and save money! Damn I feel dumb...
