Hi all!

I need a new travel backpack but I'm not an expert. I need it when I travel for 3-4 days, but I want also to use it as a "daily" backpack when I am away for just a day but I have to bring more things that usual.

So, I was looking for something as type 2, because has a more "normal" look and it isn't "weird" to carry, but people have advised me against type 2 and told me to buy type 1, without telling me why. If type 1 is definitely better than type 2, I can ignore the look and just buy it.

Can you help me please? Thanks!

1 is bigger. Image is deceiving. You are comparing 2 completely different models. You a proper travel backpack or more like a commuting backpack?

I prefer the first. The bag style usually has no zippers and while there are good zippers, no zippers are always better for a main compartment. It’s similar to my Deuter which I’ve had for 16 years.

Well that, but more because the main pocket zippers like the one on #2 carry more stress when the bag is full. So they are more prone to break. Even if you don’t fill the bag to capacity the zippers move so they get lots of use. Zipping and unzipping. So why get a bag that has parts that will fail vs a bag that has no such parts. That is unless there is some component that the zipper style bag has that is important to you.

I'd recommend checking out the onebag subreddit.

1 is more backpacking style. Top opening and no zippers, which is lighter weight and a little more secure if it gets knocked around a lot.

2 is more of a travel bag. Large zippered compartments make it easier to get into on a regular basis and help with organization.

Seconding the recommendation to check out /r/onebag and/or /r/ManyBaggers
