I used to work on offshore wind turbines. The gearboxes in those things were the size of a small car. If the gasket in the bottom needed replacing you didn't have to drain all the oil out. You'd get a Henry Hoover and put it through the gasket on top, this would hold all the oil at the right pressure so that none would fall out the bottom when you change that gasket.
