Backpack available in Australia

I've been looking at a new backpack to replace my 10+ year old Black Wolf backpack. It probably still has a couple years left in it so I'm in no rush.

I remember when I got it, the store said it had a lifetime warranty but I don't have the receipt anymore and the store where I got it is long gone. So I've already repaired a couple holes myself which has been fine.

My backpack doesn't need to take too much abuse, it's just for occasional commuting, weekends away, carry on luggage, maybe occasional part day hike. It doesn't need to be very large, 25-30L is fine. Something simple, non technical, inexpensive.

The next one that I'm looking at is the JanSport SuperBreak. Mainly because they have an online retail presence in Australia so no reliance on a physical store staying in business and it's not too expensive. North Face is also an option but more expensive.

I've looked at the backpack thread on this sub and a lot of the brands are difficult to get in Australia or very expensive or more technical than what I need.

Anyone have any other suggestions or maybe something I haven't considered? Thanks in advance.

I like my Black Hole Patagonia backpack. It’s great for packing clothes for a long weekend. There is a Patagonia shop in Sydney and Manly. But they do free shipping online too. Pretty sure a few resellers also sell them.

Thanks for the recommendation. I do like what I've read about Patagonia as a company and am willing to spend more for better quality. I will definitely keep that in mind.

Do you have Osprey where you are? They are very good less expensive packs, with a great selection.

Can def get osprey in Sydney at least. I have 2 Osprey packs of different sizes they are great quality

It doesn't look like there are any direct physical or online stores here but there are resellers. I will check them out next time I'm in a store. Thanks!

I recommend a deuter giga. Mine has been used everyday for four years of college with weekend trips throughout. It fell from my third floor balcony and saved my laptop without a problem. It’s also fallen out of a moving car and was just fine

Thanks. I can see these are available from resellers. I'll check them out alongside looking at Osprey packs.

Hey albui I'm stalking you 😃 I've had a deuter daypack and an Osprey daypack, both were solid. Paddy Pallin if it is anywhere near you tends to carry higher quality brands like these.

Thanks, I haven't really shopped at Paddy Pallin before but, yep, I can get to a physical store. Have you ever needed to have anything repaired through them or do they refer you to the manufacturer? That's one reason that makes me want to deal with the official seller directly, even if it's online.

Expensive but researched and with good product support. They have already identified that the metal clips can fail under specific stresses (not in normal use) and are shipping free replacements to all customers.

Thanks. I had no idea LTT had a store. Even though they do worldwide shipping, it looks a bit US centric which makes me wary about after sales support.

I have got their stuff shipped to Japan with no issues. Never had a reason to contact their support though.

Is there anything by OnePlanet suitable?

I'm still using my LongReach model after 18 years. I do however use a different daypack for commuting with laptops.

I haven't heard of them before and I'm in Melbourne. So thanks! Some of their daypacks look suitable so it will be good to check them out in person.

I highly recommend Jansport. They're durable, comfortable and have a lifetime warranty that the company actually supports. I found my first Jansport lying empty in some bushes in London in 2002. It was in good condition so I took it home and washed it and used it daily till the zip failed around 2009. By then I was home in Australia so I contacted Jansport, sent them photos and a couple of weeks later a replacement one turned up. That replacement has been my daily from then until now and it's still going strong! 13 years is pretty impressive in my eyes and if it does eventually fail....I'll definitely get another one from Jansport. Hopefully under warranty again. 😁

Mystery Ranch is amazing. The bags are super durable and have a cool tactical look with out being militaristic. Most comfortable strap I have had.
