Buy a used one that's the same model (in better condition) off ebay.

Maybe look for a used reliable model on e-Bay? I have a late 50’s Westinghouse hand mixer that’s still going strong.

Try to repair it? At least pop it open and take a look. It may well be using a brushed motor and brushes are done; in a case like that, you would only need to spend cents to get it as good as new.

That looks like the same thing i bought from target a few years ago for $10.... I don't think i'll be very hard for you to replace

I have that same one. I think they’re supposed to be pretty repairable

Mine died and I've unironically been using my drill with the beaters that came with the mixer.

Check the rotor brushes, if they are worn out just replace them and the fix might be easier than you think. If you want to retire it don't buy lightweight plastic junk ones, search for reviews on YouTube and you will be on the right path

I see the power cord does not have a strain relief where it goes into the hand mixer. If you had to wiggle the cord to get the mixer to work, replacing the cord will fix. Source: four years ago we replaced (actually shortened by a bit) our power cord. Mixer running good again.

I got a kitchen aid off fb marketplace for 80 bucks. Downside is the things a beast and takes up a ton of space. I’m a fan of thrift store shopping for this kind of stuff personally.

Please try to repair it. The older machines are usually pretty simple and easy to repair for a reason. We are heading back to a repair economy, anything new is designed to fail so you have to buy it again in a few years. If you still want to buy a new one, I will take it. DM me and I will pay for shipping.

It could be a brush motor and just needs new brushes. Finding compatible brushes can prove challenging, though, if you don't know anything about brushes. However if you smelled burning when it died, likely not the brushes wearing out and likely not fixable as you would probably need a new motor.

May I suggest something different, what about getting a hand blender? Personally I have a bamix that I love, the whipping attachment is fantastic. I realize this would be a lot more expensive, but since it’s a hand blender it can so much more. Also the bamix Is made to be repaired which is almost rare nowadays.

I went overboard and got a Braun. Pricey but I love it. My previous was a $10 black Friday 20 years ago.

As an aside, the most common thing to go out on these types of appliances are the bearings and coils/brushes. Bearings are an easy 15 minutes of work to swap out and coils/brushes should only be done if you have experience with electronics and soldering.

You might even have free 'fix-it clinics' in your area--our county sponsors monthly Saturday times when you can bring anything that needs repairing to a room full of volunteers who love fixing things. Such a joy to see all these engineers, mechanics, electricians, sewers, and craftspersons who love to help.

Please keep in mind that saw dust and any other garage dust will get in your drill through the vents, and then FLY OUT when you use it due to the motor spinning

I got a Kitchenaid hand mixer that I like. I did drop it and I think it's slightly damaged, but it still works. I actually like the cheaper one better; the more-expensive ones seem to be DC

Another nice thing about Kitchenaid is replacement beaters. However, I didn't buy the replacement beaters because they needed replacement. I bought them because there's beaters on standby.

That’s a great idea. I recently bought some. And had no idea what to do. I made a mess until it got mixed up enough to actually stir. Should have come here for advice.

Of course, a drill with a beater could have been even messier lol

StackTraceException t1_iujtq40 wrote

use a drill instead or also fix the mixer so it will work for another maybe 100 years

Kitchenaid rocks. At least, the higher end stuff. I literally just made an espresso from my espresso maker I bought in 2007. My 2003 fridge, dishwasher and microwave still look and run like new. Oh, and my stand mixer from 1997 is flawless, too.

I actually bought the coffee maker, grinder, and espresso machine on 2007. They’re from the pro-line (or Artisan line in Europe) and they all work beautifully. I also take care of my stuff and follow the use and care guides, and perform minor repairs if needed.

My 1992 hand mixed did just die. It didn’t really “die”, but there’s a plastic part inside that holds the main beater in place. It wore out over 30 years, and the part simply is not available.

The lower-end stuff, like the toasters, basic coffee makers and probably hand mixers, are just more basic appliances stamped out en masse in Asia with a kitchen aid label slapped on them, and maybe aren’t that great. Not sure.

Nowadays the cheap ones are super cheap, almost disposable. And the expensive ones are hit or miss. Really have to spend the money for quality and be prepared to dive into the reviews.

i went into the bosch store, looked at it, complained about the cheap feeling of the 170€ mixer and left after the sales rep said they never had that complaint before

maybe i'm just too demanding
