You either push too hard when brushing or you should change out the brush a lot more regularly. That brush head is doing absolutely nothing for removing tartar.

You can’t remove tartar with brushing. It is only plaque that can be removed. You have to get a professional cleaning for tartar to be removed

The new brush head have medium blue bristles at the top and bottom. When they turn 3/4 white, it’s time to replace the heads. Costco has replacement heads on sale usally around Christmas.
