I just went through my closet that stored a bunch of old clothes. Now, I'm not much of a clothing aficionado. I go to walmart, find well fitting clothes, and take them home. I am amazed with how weak a lot of the clothing is.

I'm currently looking for multi-use pants - convertible pants. They are long pants that have zippers near the knees so that you can turn into shorts. I will be going to a few semi-formal events (classes, non-fancy special events) and I will be going through some outdoors and firearms classes. I'm also looking for activewear (gym shorts), since I'm now beginning to exercise more.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Edit: clarification

I don't know what convertible pants are, but my favorite pants are Sherpa Adventure Pants. Found a couple at a thrift store a couple years ago. Look good-enough for a casual office with a dress shirt, comfy as hell, so many pockets.

Edit: I guess that's just the brand, the style I have is Guide Pants

Apologies, they are long pants that have zippers near the knees so that you can turn into shorts.

I have pair of Khul convertibles. They've held up in multiple hikes.

Bass Pro Shop is a good source for these pants.

Patagonia Nine trails are some great shorts.

I have some "fishing pants" by Columbia that zip off to become swim-trunks. Nothing fancy, but they've held up well over several years of intermittent (vacation) use.

ETA: I doubt any convertible pant is going to pass as "business casual", but these aren't too bad if no one looks closely. Khaki color, no bulging cargo pockets, etc.

Eddie Bauer has an amazing sale at Christmastime… I work in a fulfillment center, and have bought 4 pairs of pants 4 years ago… they’re still almost perfect condition, save a frayed stitch here or there.
