Used to be a reputable manufacturer now not so much

I agree. Bought a tiny red classic cooler for my work truck and the damn handle and side grommet (that swings the cap shut/open) broke within a month.

This cooler was my grandparents and it was always the staple cooler out every holiday outback. Packed with ice and snacks/beer/soda/water.

They upgraded and bought a very fancy expensive different branded cooler and gave me this as a hand me down. Hoping it’ll last until the day I die, it works beautifully.

I disagree. Bought an Igloo marine cooler earlier this year. Think it’s 90Q. Cost under $100. For the price, I’m thrilled with the quality. My Yetis still get most of the work done, but for a cheap backup that Igloo is spot on.

That's the point isn't it? Igloo used to be built like a tank and suitable for the main job.

It’s only “cheap” in comparison to my Yeti coolers. Zero complaints on my new Igloo

Idk why you're getting downvoted lmao.

Never have I ever opened one of those and the lid not slid off the back because the hinges were broken.

My boat came with a brand new igloo and the latches on the lid were pre-broken from the factory.

Agree, been through at least ten of these, the hinges are garbage, that’s why they sell replacements. I also thought they got clobbered by the sun.

Saw someone on reddit or a FB post that 3D printed their own stronger hinges for this exact kind of cooler. Definitely an option worth looking into, they looked really durable in comparison.

Never had a problem with the hinges on this one

I felt this comment deeply. I ended up replacing my hinges and latch with a much more durable latch I found on Amazon for cheap. Has held up under heavy use for a few years now.

I bought one at a yard sale for 1$. The thing is awesome.

Does it make that squeaky sound when you open it?

Igloos can even handle the rinse at car wash. Super white

xeroxchick t1_iy1evw2 wrote

Glad that still works because I’ve been around a few and the hinges always break.

Damn we had one for a bit too. The hinge would break, so we just used metal hinges. Other than that decent cooler.

My parents have one they bought in 1980 when we lived in the US and it still keeps things cold for days if you pack it closely enough. It’s a beast! I remember using it as a bench at the beach when I was a kid. Good times.

That cooler is good because it's a marine grade cooler. That's what the solid white color indicates.

Look for the wheel kit. Makes portability a breeze when loaded, it connects in that lil hole you see on the bottom right of the cooler located in the middle "goove" directly under the G in Igloo. Can't figure out how to add a pic of mine otherwise...

Edit: right for left

Mine is airing out in prep for a cleaning. Just used it to store food as I thawed my deep freeze (door was left open and the vents were frozen over, temps were rising up top). It was time to clean out the old stuff anyways I suppose.

Wasn't there a phase where people took videos of them shooting/blowing up their coolers for some reason?

Those were YETI coolers. YETI decided to stop giving discounts to a number of organizations. And it just so happened that the NRA foundation was one of those companies getting the discounts. So that turned into YETI doesn't support 2A rights
