Hello all! Thank you in advance. My fiancé and I are registering for our wedding and are having trouble deciding on dinnerware. We are looking for a timeless high quality brand made for daily use and dishwasher safe. We know dishes are bound to break so are there brands that put out the same patterns year after year for replacements? We currently have Corelle brand and would like to upgrade.
Had my Corelle for 36 years. Broke a few dishes by dropping them on my slate floor but otherwise they wear well. I’m sick to death of the pattern, though.
Buy plain white and use dinner accessories to dress up the table.

That’s what I did and it was a good decision.
We did this, plain square bowls and plates. It’s been 15 years and people still complement us on our “beautiful” dishes.
My best advice is if you need one set of dinnerware, request two. If you need two, request 4. They will last a long time that way.
Is microwave safe also a requirement?
Here is something I learned after many decades: thick dinnerware (pottery, china, porcelain) takes up more room in a cabinet than the thin kind. So I bought a couple of sets of Corning Ware Corelle. It's dishwasher & microwave safe and wears like iron. I absolutely love it.
Fiestaware is where it’s at, seriously. Other great bifl brands are Liberty Tabletop, Red Land Cotton, Rada, and Frankenmuth Woolen Mill. We had all of these on our registry
You can’t go wrong with a classic we just keep adding colors had for 15 years but some prices are over 50!

Not sure if you’re also looking for silverware, but Liberty Tabletop is the only silverware manufacturer in the USA, and their utensils are very good quality.
For $10 on their site you can buy a “sample” pack which is one dinner fork in three different patterns. You pick which patterns you’d like to sample, but don’t get to pick which utensil. So I think they’re always dinner forks. Still, I highly recommend them! They use 18/10 stainless steel.
While all of them are awesome suggestions they are one of my favorite by far. Glad to hear it!
Honestly- get something in white. Don’t register for actual “china” at all.
Noritake Colorwave. Had it for years and I'm never tired of it. Simple elegance. We have the graphite color, but it comes in many colorways.
I loved my Corelle and had it for years. But I was ready for an upgrade and got a set of Wedgewood white and I love it! It was a Wirecutter pick too.

I use Fiestaware because it is very strong, durable, comes in several mix and match colors and most importantly, contains no lead at all.
Front of the House. Wayfair sells it to consumers but it’s mainly to the trade. It is high quality restaurant dishware, serve ware, etc. Mainly comes in white (and a pure white, no undertones of ivory etc). It’s incredibly durable. I’ve only had one plate break in 14 years when my husband dropped it outside on cement. No chips. It is substantial and is the perfect canvas for your food
I can't weigh in on brands, but I have been able to replace specific Crate & Barrel patterned plates from ebay. Some people think buying dinnerware secondhand is weird, but it doesn't bother me considering I eat out at restaurants lol
Duralex amber glass plates. I have a set from the 70's and recently bought some new plates off of French amazon. They're almost indestructible and handle everything. Probably same composition as pyrex stuff?
They also have a very unique but timeless appeal to me.
My parents got a set of Corelle when they got married, and we still had a decent number of them thirty years later. If you’re looking for daily use and dishwasher safe, I don’t think you can beat them.
Nantucket Basket by Wedgewood. Bone China. The pattern was made staring in 1984.
If you're looking for an upgrade that will last, go for porcelain. I had a beautiful ceramic set that started chipping after less than a year. I registered for Fitz & Floyd everyday white organic, which is porcelain and thick. While I haven't gotten a good chance to test it out extensively, it seems to be very good quality.
People still register for flatware?!
We are talking about plates. But yes I am sure people register for utensils. Why wouldn’t they?
I haven’t been to a wedding that had those in registry in at least a decade.
Good sets are several hundred dollars. It's a smart thing to register for.
We registered for them, and several people’s weddings I have been too in the past year have too. In fact my coworkers currently have it on their registry too. It’s a shame that a lot of people don’t any more, because cheap flatware sucks. Anything 18-0 sucks and that includes Oneida.
I have Cuisinart, and while nice, I grew tired of them quick. Really wish I had white corelle wear.
Denby was our alternate chocie but couldnt wait for a specific 4th box of it.
Tip; before buying, make sure they fit in your dishwasher efficiently

I've had Denby for almost 20 years. Sure it's expensive, but I haven't had any breaks, chips or anything. Even with moving several times, including internationally. The pasta bowls are amazing.

What or why exactly are you "upgrading" from Corelle? I switched to Corelle last year and can't imagine going back to porcelain or earthenware. The weight and space saved in the cupboards is amazing.
