Thank you! I didn't even think about the off-gassing. I like the concrete slab idea but hubby wants to be able to access underneath. Tile...... I know that will be more $ but that could be a good option for what we are looking for.

also before spending money on solar, make your house energy efficient. lots of attic insulation, insulated windows you might even benefit by upgrading your HVAC if it is old.

Otherwise you might end up having to install a much bigger and more expensive solar system.

WOW! TYTYTY! lol. I had no idea that was a thing. I will pass this one on to hubby as he will understand it :). We don't plan on off-grid but are thinking of "selling" for credit to the electric company and then using the credit in the winter.

It is an older home but looks like upgrading should be easy-ish, though may take a while to get all the insulation redone. Ill look at holding off on the solar until we can do that.
