I work from home in Chicago and keep the heat lower, I'm currently in a tee shirt, merino sweater and a thin fleece jacket that just isn't cutting it. I need a 'jacket' with true insulation or lining of some sort, but thin enough to wear around the home office all day and look normal on video calls. Black or a bland flannel pattern preferred, no down lining, it has to be durable enough to be worn and sat-in daily.

They make those lined flannel shirts. Depending on price range, could look at Pendleton (if you’re in the USA).

Have you tried either silk knit under layers (e.g. Wintersilks) or Under Armor? That might let you stay warm wearing your usual work clothes

There are a number of solid merino companies out there these days, but I'm not sure many of them are BIFL-appropriate (YMMV).

Pendleton is a good, affordable recommendation. I'd also advise checking out Filson and Dehen 1920 for high quality, heritage-tier wool. I have a shawl sweater coat from Dehen that I've been practically living in & have received multiple compliments (on zoom & from strangers irl); goes well with business casual.

If you're just sitting & not moving all day, you may want to consider some thick wool socks & wearing a beanie / hat in between meetings.

When in doubt, supplement with a lap cat ;)

I think you might like the Mackinaw, or this, or this. They're all designed large to accommodate layering and should provide a load of warmth on their own. Though when I think of a work jacket, even if it's office work, I think of something like this one from Dickies but I have no idea if it's BIFL quality.

You could also use heavy weight thermal underwear and shirts. It'll add substantial heat retention. Wool base layers are good too, I have some Smartwool stuff I like, but that's more useful for being active and managing sweat, so I'll wear heavier cheaper stuff if I'm sitting a lot.

I also recommend the Smartwool Hike Light Cushion Crew Socks, though you might want thicker ones. Darn Tough and Icebreaker are also good for socks. Just wash and dry all that stuff on the lowest settings.

Fingerless gloves could work too even using a computer, though it's not a great match. I like Upstate Stock gloves for their variety.

A black silk scarf wouldn't be out of place either.

I have found some insulated shirts and sweaters that I really like at LL Bean. Not sure how dressy you want to be but it’s definitely not as formal as a cardigan with dress shirt. I could wear my llbean stuff with colleagues with whom I’m friends but not with executives for sure.

Le Tricoteur makes a zipped Guernsey. I have a regular jumper from them and it’s exceptionally warm.
