In researching this myself, I’ve heard the extra weight (and cost) of the D5 is not worth it in comparison to the D3, but don’t own either so can’t personally vouch.

The differences are super minor between D3 and d5. You won't notice the performance difference imo.

D3. Why? They are lighter. Way lighter than D5 and that makes a huge difference.

D3, unless you find a crazy deal making D5 cheaper. Both great, wouldn't pay extra for D5.

I’m not, they look killer. It’s just a cost thing. A relative wants to buy me a set and I’m already feeling overwhelmed and guilty bc of the cost of the d3 or d5.

D3 for frying pans. Cuisinart clad for all pots. I’ve had this combo for about 8 years and it’s bomb proof.

Own a D5 set, that I got super cheap. It’s heavy. Not cast iron heavy, though. Don’t even noticed the orange copper line on it anymore.

I think it’s works well and heats up quick. I would think D3 would function equally well.

I would buy D3 unless you get D5 for cheap.

I can't remember what my reasoning was years ago but I picked the D3 by a wide margin and have been very happy with them.

We bought the 10-piece D5 set over the summer during a sale at Williams-Sonoma. It came with a free roasting pan and we also purchased some Green Pans non-stick pieces for cooking eggs and such. We’ve been really pleased with them.

Too funny, I've been debating the same thing!! I just used my mom's D3 to cook Thanksgiving dinner and I see absolutely no need to get D5 now. It's plenty heavy and I can't imagine paying extra to deal with something heavier.

I have the D3 3 qt Universal Pan. This pan has 2 handles, and is shallow. Fits easily into my oven. I also have the D3 4 qt everyday pan. This one has a long handle. Both cane with lids. To me is was mostly a price point. I am slowly adding. I hope you find the right one for you.

They do their factory seconds sale online every few months. If you miss it, just wait a few months and you'll get the next one.

I got a D3 12" fry pan and I love it. It's far lighter than my cast iron and it holds and distributes heat evenly. Can't find whatever defect it supposedly has.

I have the D5 because I like the brushed look, feel like it's probable easier to keep looking good than the shiny stuff. We've had them for 3 years now and they look like I bought them 3 days ago (even though I can't get my wife to hand dry them lol).

Seems like alot of people are D3's here. And Id second those opinions. Plethora of reasons. But D3 all the way for home cook, and if they were prepared to spend $on a D5, ask for some Diori rubber spatulas with the money saved. Those are a great addition to any pan collection. I've had those for almost 5 years now as well.

I bought D5, but like another user mentioned, I chose them over the D3 (and even the copper) only because I preferred the look, and it wasn’t a financial hardship for me to do so. I would have been totally happy with D3 if I liked the shiny finish or if that was better for my budget.
And the D5 are quite heavy, as others have warned. I have to use both hands to lift unless they are empty, and I ladle instead of pour a lot of the time, now.
