EDIT: Thank you all!! I was worried that such a thing as a BIFL Pencil Sharpener did not exist, and you really came through for me!

My daughter (in high school) looooves her wooden pencils. And she loves to keep them super sharp. So she carries a small pencil sharpener around with her. But the ones I can find are cheap and pretty quickly become dull, and then have to just be tossed (no way to replace the blades). The old-school mounted crank kind won't work as she wants to be able to carry it around in her bag.

Does anyone know of a pencil sharpener that is good quality, with blades that either last a good long time, or are replaceable?

While we’re at it, this X-acto electric pencil sharpener has been going since I can remember, so about 20 years. Gets them perfectly sharp every time still.

An alternative is to get her a mechanical pencil. Truly a BIFL item

I have tried. But she says they're just not sharp *enough*. And she loves the hand-feel of the wooden pencil (only Taconderoga - no other pencils are allowed in our house anymore!)

Kuru Toga mechanical pencils by Uni come in 0.3mm size leads. Kuru Toga pencils rotate the lead as you write. JetPens.com

Jetpens has a fantastic selection of several styles which are all better than the ones you find in the stationary section. Art stores also often have a better selection of them too! Mine is by Faber-Castelle, but it does not have a shavings catcher.

For some reason, my son (15 y/o) wanted a fountain pen. Luckily I held off from buying at the local Staples, and instead found JetPens from their YouTube videos. He chose a Kaweco fountain pen, and I got myself a Kaweco Sport ball pen and some mechanical pencils. I couldn't justify the really nice $70 metal one for myself, though.
