what is that red thing that looks like a mouth

azzarth t1_iyt9xkn wrote

Its a coin holder/container. I'm not sure what the exact name of them is, but you squeeze the sides and it opens up like a little cup shape. Let go and it folds back to the shape you see in the picture.

That's my old UT VOL coin purse for the 1994 game schedule. Huh it's as old as the Gott. I always kept it in my box for the soda machines.

tossaroo t1_iyu7u3w wrote

Yes, that's a give-away coin purse like you'd get free from your bank or savings & loan in the 1970s. Bank logo and local university mascot on one side, and game schedule on the other.

I don't know how many times this happened but I'd be welding and notice my hand cramping and hurting and I'd realize that I had a death grip on my tig rig.

mrnotu OP t1_iyx39g9 wrote

Singlehand. Just carried my basic tools and TIG Rig.

rswood79 t1_iyyzgsq wrote

Gotcha. Seems most larger companies are going all single hand the last 10-15 years. But our west here, it’s tough to get slick singlehands on alloys so rigs are starting to become more prevalent. I’ve been in the rig market for about 25 years, so I’ve seen a bit of change. MT, WY, CO, ND are still pretty good markets for trucks due to remote projects and rental equipment availability. Hope you are happy in the trade!

mrnotu OP t1_iyziaql wrote

One thing about single is using their welding machines. Get a machine that barely welds and your day just got a bit harder.

This is a damn good cure to not having a big enough lunch box. I’ve had problems with this for years. Being a body builder and having to eat nonstop, plus working 12hr shifts, you really can’t have a big enough lunch box. I carried one of those 36 can igloo coolers for a long time.

I mean, it has a spout for gods sakes

5

Spadeykins t1_iyv2jg0 wrote

It contains that little tray / bowl to the right of it as well as a container for the spout at the bottom. Pretty unusual design today but these were popular back then. They only make them water containers now.

Busman123 t1_iyuoxti wrote

Wow! Looks like you finally decided to put it down for the pic! Haha!

I hope to God you regularly wash that water spout.

2

mrnotu OP t1_iyvkzp0 wrote

The spout gets washed about once a year cause it is never used.

Horror_Train_6950 t1_iywrgc5 wrote

How much liquid does it hold? Looks like it’s a pretty big reservoir

2

mrnotu OP t1_iyx2v3w wrote

It holds about 3 gallons or nine 12 oz cans and ice.

3

Horror_Train_6950 t1_iz0o6ii wrote

Wow that is massive. Didn’t realize it was so big from the pic. Thought maybe a foot tall tops.

2

mrnotu OP t1_iz0q959 wrote

It's 14 inches tall and 10 inches around so not that big. Enough room for food for those 12 hour shifts.

I was about to comment asking if that was some marlinespike shit or if that was a factory weave and I just couldn't tell the difference.

2

mrnotu OP t1_iz1d28n wrote

The rope itself is off a papermaking machine. It drives all the rollers like a v-belt would.

TapEarlyTapOften t1_iz0s3sz wrote

Ain't no one gonna talk about that lanyard? Is there some marlinespike shit going on here or is that just something made by a machine and I can't tell the difference from the picture?
