I have that same, same one, still on duty in my bedroom. The big, red digits are so easy to read in the dark, but not so bright as to keep me awake. I hope it outlives me, I don't want to try and replace this one I've had since Clinton's first term.

I too have that identical one! Had 2 so far since the 80's. That snooze button can take a pounding! It hates my fav station and falls off it constantly....but it's a love hate thing!

Got one in 1998. It still looks and works like it's brand new. It's still on my night table so I can see what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night but occasional power failures have made the alarm unreliable. Use my Cell phone for that.

I had a black one that I was very upset having to throw it out. The internal battery must've started to go bad as it would start it's alarm at random times during the day. Thing was 20+ years old. Couldn't figure out how to open it without causing external damage and couldn't find the same one. I recently bought the updated "cube" model but don't like it as much as this one!

Funny that they called their clock radios "dream machines" when it was really their job to end your dreams...

I don't know why but I've usually had great luck with my Sony electronics. To the point where you'd assume I'm a fanboy (I probably am).

I've got a handme down selection of hifi equipment from the 80s, my atrac walkman and mp3 walkman from the 00s, a laptop from 09, tv from 13, Bluetooth headphones from 18. All still working.

Their phones have been hit and miss but no worse than any other I've owned I guess and they still give you an SD card slot and headphone jack so until there is an alternative I will stick with them

I've got one of these in black, also 30+ years old, still works and it's been used everyday since I was 8 years old. My grandma gave it to me for Christmas, she's long gone now but that alarm clock still works. Some of the buttons are starting to get a little unresponsive, but I'm keeping it until it breaks.

cykovisuals t1_iyxfst5 wrote

Looks like an impact mark from hitting a wall or door jamb across the display. Someone threw this clock across the room once and it still survived.

Tracksuits t1_iyxjv9g wrote

One of my grandmothers has had this exact same model since the 90ā€™s. She has the radio turned on when I visit her every. single. time. Still works like a charm though!

This brought back some fond memories, thank you.

I still use my ICF-C240. My mom got it for me before I started highschool, not sure exactly when, but I must have been about 9 or 10 years old, so maybe the mid to late 80s? Absolutely love the thing. Keeps great time. Nice red display that's easy to read when it's dark or light, and not too bright. It's perfect.

About 10 years ago I bought a brand new C218 (not sure what's with the earlier model number) so my wife and I can both have a clock on our night stands. I hate it. The clock skews by like 10 minutes every year or two. And the display is this ugly bright green that keeps me up at night. I had to buy one of those darkening stickers, and now it's too dark to read in the daytime. Junk.

Is this the one that has the battery compartment just in case the power goes off in the middle of the night and the clock resets? I remember there being a household upgrade of clock radios. From the ones without backup battery power to ones with battery compartments, and my mother won't admit it, but I know it's because she watched Home Alone and frightened herself into an insane clock radio upgrade situation.

Try a smartwatch as alarm clock if you ever get the chance. Being gently tapped on the wrist with increasing intensity is a much better way to wake up than your entire world being torn apart by an air raid siren.
