Have had this same one for about 6 years now and some time in the last year it has started making some concerning sounds. Still works, but took it apart and it's all plastic gearing so I don't expect it to last too much longer. I tried to do some research when it started making noise to see if there were any with metal gears but couldn't find any.

Having overheated a cheap one recently, I guess the lesson is to avoid overstressing these little boys. We have this guy for when shit gets real.

Yeah we have a kitchenaid stand mixer as well and use that for all the heavy duty things that doesn't mean we didn't over work the hand mixer at some point and caused the issue, but I don't recall that happening

You could try to replace the plastic with metal gears, Amazon or eBay (or a local option) probably has all the sizes and teeth counts you need

I think the ones from discount stores like Target have more plastic. Some of them have more metal. I've worked in various kitchen stores and can tell the difference in the weight. I hope you got a good one that lasts a long time! I love their Empire Red line 🙂

This is good to know. I was wondering why they were so inexpensive at Target, I think I’ll pass now!

I always thought kitchen aid wasn’t a very good brand, I thought they made Hamilton beach level cheap stuff. Am I completely wrong?

My wife says it’s a good brand and swears by it. However, they are not some magical company that still makes everything out of brass and cast iron like they did 70 years ago.

Great find! I bought this exact one 15 years ago when I got tired of the cheap ones breaking every holiday season. It's still going strong. Mine is red too.

I burnt through two cheap hand mixers before finally buying a $89 kitchenaid hand mixer about 10 years ago. Great find!

Mine lasted until I tried making cookies with it.

I have the stand mixer now, and will never need another.

We have a stand mixer but sometimes it’s just way overkill for small tasks.

I've had my stand mixer for 15 years and my mum had had hers for 40.

Kitchen aid is awesome

Great find—and I hope it is of the older build!

I have one of these in still-fab condition I haven’t yet killed. My mother bought it for me ca 1987, and it still delivers!
