I also have this cd player! Sometimes when a cd has soft sound you can hear the disc spinning very loudly.

Check the availability of the cd mechanism parts (particularly the laser) and if they are still available NOS buy one now if you intend to keep it going. I bought (possibly) the last NOS laser for my 1988 Panasonic boombox from a seller in Romania, experience tells me I'll get another 15 years before I have to start component level replacements.

Haha that’s so funny. I don’t know how old you are, but I’ve noticed that CDs and cassette tapes have “hollowed out.” Love your pic from above (the Denon and Sony) as it brings great nostalgia - I personally still “collect” or have some vinyl, and everything else is MP3 or streaming (hooked up to a receiver to drive multiple speaker sets) but no more cassettes or CDs!

Wish my CD changer survived. Went through three of them - two Sonys just like that and a pioneer cartridge type.

My dad has a Sony ES (apparently audiophile series) CD player from 1985. It JUST stopped working a few weeks ago. I tore into it and it looks like the power switch has stopped making a connection, so I've ordered a new switch that will hopefully work to replace the original (which no longer has parts available).

If not, I'll just bypass the switch and put it in a remote controlled power strip so it can be turned on and off that way.

I have a Denon AVR-1905. It's what I use for all my audio-visual things. It's seen constant daily use since... welll, whenever I bought it all those years ago, in the year 2000something.

I have a 5.1 setup of Paradigm speakers hooked up to it. No DVD player or CD player or anything else, but I play music through my PC, all my games sound, all my digital movies go through it. My PC is my TV. It's basically a giant media-center the way I use it.

It does 5.1, Dolby and/or DTS, and that's good enough. Hooked up through an optical cable so it sounds great. Super simple.
