It does make me feel fancy though, the boots and the hat mostly. ;)

Yeah for sure, they are very ornate boots. Hat is straight black I like it.

Those are pretty basic boots ... Nice, but not ornate by any stretch.

The look like the boots everyone around here wears when working on their property. Their dress boots are far more fancy.

You don’t know what the hell he needs. You do not know what his daily duties consist of. What is you have a problem with? The gun? The knife? The flashlight? I carry a gun, daily. I feed cows and horses twice a day (in the dark both times) so I always need a flashlight. I cut twine off hay and sometimes uncooperative feed sacks. I always need a knife. I wear a hat, boots, and belt too. So why don’t ya just get on back over there and hold it in your mouth till it gets limp and mind your own fancy boy business.

I live on the US/Mexico border in the middle of nowhere and there are drug runners that cross my path regularly. My neighbor is a human smuggler. But I think you are right, I'm getting downvoted for the gun in the picture. Even though most guns are buy it for life purchases.

Tell me you have an AR in your UTV. If not, why not?

I have a close family friend with a ranch in deep south Texas. I promise you, he's very well armed any time he's out on the property. AR in his gater, AR in his truck. 45 on his hip. It's a necessity. Too many people don't understand what is going on down there and they think it's an overreaction. They need to spend some time down there.

Serious question, since my buddy and I just had this debate. I keep a couple of shotguns for home defense at the house, and I carry a 9 on me and keep a 45 in the car. I’ve got plenty of other guns (ARs included), but unless we’re in a war or riot type situation, why would anyone need to carry an AR around? Are there shootouts with the cartel that aren’t being reported on? Generally, if someone is an imminent threat, a decent sized caliber handgun will stop the threat just fine.

The migrants, smugglers, coyotes etc are far less likely to bother you if you are armed. Our family friend sees them crossing his property all the time and messing with his infrastructure (cutting fences, messing with out buildings, stealing etc), but they very typically avoid him. The saddest part is when he finds a body, or whats left of one. This isn't him, but its an example of what is going on.

You also have feral hogs, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, black bears, Russian boars that get to over 500lbs are aren't shy etc. These ranches are pretty large and remote, so you are on your own out there. Our friend's ranch is several sections, so its huge, but small compared to a lot of them in the area. I have neighbors on much smaller acreage that have rifles in their trucks by default, but that's strictly for varmints.

Oh wow! Thanks for educating me. I was truly trying to figure out why any civilian would need to carry an AR (over more compact guns). But I can totally see using one to pick off dangerous animals and to intimidate people from harming people/property.

I can buy the costume you wear every day in the kids section of the dollar store. Right next to the cap guns.

The gun may be necessary. The knife may be necessary. Boots are helpful, but by no means need to be cowboy style. There are lots of hats that protect you from the sun.

This is a costume, and anyone from outside of the American southwest recognizes it as such.
