I'm talking about the bags that can be used as a backpack, shoulder bag, or carried like a briefcase. Looking for something to use as a carry on/personal item to hold electronics (laptop, chargers, etc.) and all the other various stuff you bring on planes when you have another bag. Clothes aren't the main use case but enough room for a days worth would be nice. What I currently use is an old free work backpack made my Timbuk2 that's ok. What I've found so far:

Topo Designs Global Briefcase

Aer Flight Pack 3

LL Bean Continental Luggage, Carry-On Travel Pack

Tom Binh Technonaut 30

I think Tom Binh is out of my price range as I can't just stomach ~$400 for a bag (I just bought a Travelpro checked spinner for $310 and that's the most I've spent) when there are other good options for half the price. Any thoughts on the first three or alternatives?

Side note: I've always used a backpack as my carry on/personal item but I'm considering alternatives if there's recommendations

Ime, the 3 way is sort of a waste of space and weight to put away the pack straps and have another strap. I had them in the past but backpacks are so common in my business it’s not needed

I love my Osprey bags. They are super durable and useful. But I do not have any "3 way" bags from them. I have their Porter 40 and 46 for travel needs. The porter has thicker sides that keep the bag from getting sloppy when underpacked

Maybe one of these might suit your needs...?

My biggest thing is I like to carry one bag on the plane and check my other but I don't always like the carry handles on backpacks and would want to carry them horizontally if not on my bad. So I guess if there's backpacks that have more than just the small handle up top I'd be interested.

North face voyager duffel. Comes in 3 sizes. The middle one, 42l works as a carry-on but all the sizes are good.

Works as a backpack, a bit like a briefcase and is what i use instead of a suitcase.

Packs away neatly inside itself too so doesn't take up much room in your house or your hotel room when you unpack.
