ITunes or whatever it's called nowadays still works with every iPod, up to the 2001 first gen. Put in your mp3s/AAC/ALAC from your ripped CDs, your totally legal downloads or whatever source of audio in the library, plug the USB cable and let it do it's thing!

It still works? Phew. I was worried about that when I heard they discontinued support for iPod. Mine from 2005 still works.

Looks like you won't be able to get it repaired or updated by Apple but the software syncing thingy is still into iTunes/MacOS, which is a nice touch if you ask me.

Someone did it there with a 1st gen. The hardest part was the dongle pile to get FireWire on a recent computer but the software part was a breeze. So it should go well with a USB iPod. https://www.makeuseof.com/use-original-ipod-in-2022/
