Hello Everyone!

I'm about to move to Switzerland, where it's bound to be pretty cold. I'd like to buy a pair of boots that I will use for leisure and work (office job).

I wanted to buy something like these Timberland 6-Inch boots, but from what I read here they are apparently not as good as I thought.

I'm looking for a pair of boots that are:

- Leather

- Good for going to work in a not-too-casual outfit

- Decently warm (I will probably have to wear a double sock either way)

- In the range 100$-300$

What do you guys think of Redwings?

Thanks for any suggestion!

I regularly hike in south eastern Switzerland over Christmas time in my redwings, and they are definitely not appropriate to the business style of dress there. I would suggest waiting until you arrive to get a feel for the style if your intention is to blend into the culture there.

Redwing blacksmith. That would be warm enough for outside with warm wolly socks, yet good for the office. Would last a lot longer than timberland.

You read wrong. You don't read about brands as that is a distraction from the topic which is whether the individual boot is BIFL or not. That metric mainly relies on its construction with Goodyear welt being the gold standard most of us look to. These appear to have a Goodyear welt meaning when the tread wears or cracks, a cobbler can put a new sole on and they can live another day.

Are these top tier paragon boots that will take a HIMARS strike? Nope. But they should last a good long while and can be recrafted by a cobbler.

And Red Wing is a good boot, again not top tier, but again...don't rely on the name. You should walk into a Red Wing store and state your metrics and ask that anything shown should be Goodyear welted for later recrafting as Red Wing sells both good boots and bad boots. Sadly many here just say Red Wing and run away without my admonishment. Same applies for Timberland, Allen Edmonds and many other makers.

I don’t recommend doubling up on socks.. that will cause blisters.

I suggest moving there and seeing that the folks who know the area are already wearing
