I use nylon hair bands. Think of the material of women's pantyhose but more dense. They are very stretchy, have rolled edges, NO metal to break your hair and they retain shape FOREVER they've never gotten stretched out on me. Even when wet and after years of use. I have very thick curly hair if that helps but my friends with thin hair love them also. Here's a link to the exact ones I use. Hope that helps!
