The scrunches are less likely to cause breakage. Very popular in the 1980’s.

Yes, but the satin versions are gentler still, but they also hang on tight. A good upgrade from the 80s version.

Even Scrunchies made a line of damage that I could see as I grew out my hair. I found my hair is much healthier avoiding ponytails and putting it all the way up. (I have grown it out to calf length now) It also stay out of the way better when working out and is safer around tools or fires. My all time favourite implement for putting up my hair is a Ficcare Maximus. They are metal and enamel. The one I am currently wearing is nearly 20 years old now, but I have newer ones too and they are still just as BIFL worthy.

i love the hair bands and scrunchies from gimme beauty. you can buy them at ulta, and there are multiple sizes based on thickness. i’ve never had lines or creases when using them, and they really hold my thick hair without causing any kind of damage or tugging on my scalp. i’ve had them for over two years now and none of them have snapped.

I use nylon hair bands. Think of the material of women's pantyhose but more dense. They are very stretchy, have rolled edges, NO metal to break your hair and they retain shape FOREVER they've never gotten stretched out on me. Even when wet and after years of use. I have very thick curly hair if that helps but my friends with thin hair love them also. Here's a link to the exact ones I use. Hope that helps!

For years, I've used the thick bands (ex. Goody Extra Thick Ouchless Elastics, but there are others) and those do hold up well, but over the holidays, my daughter turned me onto "satin scrunchies." While the jury is still out, they seem pretty awesome (they look like this: https://images.urbndata.com/is/image/Anthropologie/46288486_014_b). Her hairdresser recommended that she try them. (She has a LOT of very full, thick, curly hair; I have what has always been very fine, straight, and now thinning hair, and they work great for both of us.)
