Been looking for some solid wood stuff on FB/craigslist - dresser, sideboard/credenza/end table or two maybe. What are some reliable brands I should keep an eye out for that I can trust are fullly hard wood? The only one I know of at the moment is American of Martinville. I've heard most any Danish stuff is veneer. Any other trustworthy old timey brands?

Also, any tips for being able to spot veneer?

We have Pennsylvania House stuff that has gone through three kids and 50 years of use. Still tight but needs a refinish.

It isn’t veneer.

Lane was made in USA of solid wood as recently as a few years ago and may still be. Bassett is slso decent. Upscale would be Stickley, Thomas Moser.

Lane just fired all its employees, according to a salesman who sold us our furniture. They mentioned Stickley being good and some of Bassett (benchmade?) being solid wood.

That’s too bad. BTW there is very expensive furniture, including antique furniture, that uses veneer.

I suggest you look at the build rather than the name. Open the drawers and check for dovetail joints. You can spot veneer by looking at the edges, especially from the back or inside the object. There are tons of good quality furniture out there thats made by local craftsmen.
