May I ask what brand of stainless steel you’ve been using? I found that cheaper brands taste bad while Yeti and ThermoFlask do not.

Honestly just used a "shaker" which is a stainless steel one that I drink my protein with. Smells like stainless steel and tastes like one although it's marked as "non-bad-smell retainer".

Will the quality improve if I buy a specifically made bottle for beverages?

I’m betting the protein is making the taste shift. If I put anything else besides water in mine, it’s a few weeks until it’s back to baseline. Try a dedicated water only bottle.

Yes I think that might be what’s causing the off taste.

I would say so - I had a Sigg bottle for years and can’t recall any bad tastes. You should be able to find them, it’s a Swiss brand and you can likely order from their website.

I don’t look at brands with stainless steel water bottles, but I do look at steel quality. I only use 18/8 or 18/10 stainless steel, and I never get a taste from them. They also never rust and are super durable. I recently replaced my cracked naglene with a 32 oz 18/8 single ply bottle. I’ve been using it every day for two years and it looks brand new, but I only put water in it.
