Designer brands aren’t that great. They’re mainly used for the “look at me” types and signal to others that you have wallet that might be worth stealing. Go get yourself a Saddleback Leather wallet. It has a lifetime guarantee and their motto is “your kids will fight over it when you die”.

I have the small card/id wallet. My old one wore out and I sent them pictures of it and they sent me a new one. No questions asked or proof of receipt. Been using them for 14 years.

Second Saddleback.

If you want a more “feminine” option check out Able goods. I love my Able bag and wallet. They also have a lifetime leather guarantee.

Kinda true. Some brands like coach can still have a good wallet.

Honestly I’d recommend a shell wallet. She’s great and are pretty resistant to friction wear.

Alligator also holds up pretty good.

Hermès is just a name, the products aren’t actually that nice. It’s brand recognition not a display of craftsmanship.

I don't know that it's the best, but my leather Fossil wallet is working great for me. I got it for $20 on ebay a year ago. I think it was listed as vintage, but I don't know when it was made.

Came here to recommend Fossil. I picked up a Fossil leather wallet at the thrift store 5 years ago and it's still going strong.

To add to this, I got a new Fossil wallet approx 5 years ago and it's going strong. So long as you get a genuine (not PU) leather wallet, you should get a decent life span out of it.

ditto, I have a small leather purse from Fossil and it’s held up really well for almost a decade

There is no answer for this. Leather quality comes from the leather and the workmanship and the materials other than leather. 0 people know these metrics for the "designer brands" to make a ranking list. If you want a Fendi wallet? Go get the damn thing. It will be BIFL, don't worry as 95% of luxury goods are rebadged/designed from paragon OEM sources. Will it last as long as a BIFL wallet from a non-designer? It will likely be close but there's an aesthetic difference between normal and designer and some want this. Beware haters that get big mad about $1000 wallets....while not my cup of tea....they are legit, but some get SuperMAD about them.

Mitchell Leather in Milwaukee has spectacular leather wallets.

There are so many good wallet makers out there. Makr is probably our favorite but Tanner Goods is up there. We have an ongoing list on our site with tons of options to look through.

I would ask you to add Mitchell Leather to that list.

Family-run business in Milwaukee since the late 60s (when we were the leather capital of the US), hand made, artisanal level. And because they're small production they can source smaller batches of higher-quality leather than the "big boys" can get.

I've got one of their money clip wallets and love it, and my father has had one of their briefcases for the past twenty years and I'll almost certainly inherit it when he dies.

Not a shill, just a happy user of some of their products.

I wouldn't call this one of the biggest designer brands but certainly one of the best and longest-lasting for the money. So far, my wallet has lasted at least 10 years. I have a back-up one of the same brand (new) but I wonder if I'm ever going to need it.

My dad's coated canvas Fendi has held up much, much better than my similar LV.

My Epi leather wallet from LV has held up pretty well over the past 15 years. Some wear on the folds, but outside leather is almost like new.

I’ve had a Tumi for 8 years and it’s held up well. I don’t think it’s a BIFL and will likely be replacing it within the next 2 years.

Ashland leather gets my vote for the best wallet out there. $200-$300, better than any designer wallet you can buy. Most Horween leather will hold up forever.

I love my Big Skinny wallet. you can find them online at Bigskinny.com . Not affiliated with them. They make in nylon and leather, a few different styles, RFID if you like and they carry a ton of stuff with turning into a "George Costanza Wallet"

Designer brands suck. They are made in the same factories as Walmart products.
