Duvet recommendations that won't cause overheating?

I recently bought a cheap duvet insert from Amazon to replace my old duvet I'd had for a few years, but holy shit is this thing warm. It doesn't breathe at all like my old duvet - it's awful. For the past two days, I've woken up drenched in sweat like I've had a nightmare.

Do y'all have any specific duvet recommendations that 1) breathe very well, 2) have those little fabric bits to tie to a duvet cover, and 3) won't pill too badly over time? $150 is my upper limit.

Great cotton sheets, thin wool filled duvet and an optional wool blanket in top. This works so well for me. A plastic fibre filled duvet makes me sweat every time.

I would recommend a goose down duvet. I use it year-round and no sweating. Costco ( in Canada) is/was the source for fantastic Hutterite duvets, made with top quality cotton. There are various feather ‘lofts’ from light to super heavy arctic weights. A quality goose DOWN duvet will last for many years. Do some research and make sure the duvet has the registered ‘Goose Down’ label. Be aware that there must be a minimum of 80% down content before a duvet can be classed as a DOWN duvet. I like a 100% cotton quilt i got from crate and barrel - it is 100% cotton filling and 100% cotton shell.

It's not a duvet, but i layer it with other things. Is warm and breathes well. Its a great mid-weight blanket.

I would also recommend looking at west elm. Or other similar stores. They are pricey but you can probably find what you want on sale or with a discount coupon.

I have one from the Martha Stewart line that’s 15ish years old and has held up great. I live in San Diego and am happy with in through fall, winter and spring. Summer gets too hot and I normally just use the duvet cover without an insert.

Googling for a link showed this might cost a bit more than I realized. If you have an IKEA near you, they have a number of budget friendly options. I bought a lightweight down comforter there about 10 years ago. It’s nice, but I prefer the down alternative (Martha).

Edited to add— don’t buy the cheapest IKEA inserts or you’ll be sweating again. Learned that one the hard way.

Mommesilk, all season duvet. It’s silk filled with a cotton cover. On Amazon it’s about $150-ish for a queen. Has 6 loops to tie the cover down.

I bought a comforter from The Company Store like 10 years ago, still going strong and no overheating. Not sure if they're still as good quality, but I hope they are.
